Upon arriving in Celadon city, Misty, Brock and Pikachu are enamored by the scents of Erika’s store. The aspiring Pokémon master Ash Ketchum insults Erika’s perfume by calling it a “girl thing” and is banned from the perfume shop and eventually the Celadon gym. Ash’s determination for winning the Rainbow badge makes him turn to Team Rocket, as Jessie, James and Meowth help him disguise as a girl. They both pretend to be his parents as they sneak him into the gym.
Erika is seen telling a story about Gloom to a group of girls, as well as Misty and Brock. ‘Ashley’ is introduced to Erika, but only for Ash to be discovered by Pikachu. He then challenges Erika for a battle and she accepts.
In the middle of their battle, Team Rocket interrupts and accidentally sets the gym on fire. All the girls of the gym quickly rescue all the Pokémon and evacuate the building. However, Erika’s Gloom has been trapped inside the building. She attempts to go in and save it, but is stopped by Misty who tells her it’s too dangerous. Ash puts his life on the line to save Gloom himself and succeeds. Erika awards him with the rainbow badge for saving Gloom.
